SM full syn or SN blend?

At my local Big W I saw Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 and Mobil 1 5w50, both fully synthetic, marked down cheaper than Durablend which is exactly that, just a synthetic blend.
Looking closer I saw that it was because they are both SM rated while the latest Durablend is current SN. I was thinking about buying the Helix ultra and trying it out but my question is, is an SM rated full synthetic still better than an SN rated semi synthetic?
My engine has never had a full syn in it but is in good clean shape

SM synthetic all day long If cheaper than the blend. All else being equal.

I wouldn't hesitate to use the Shell Helix or the M1 if the price was right. I say go for it and use the Helix with confidence, it's an excellent oil.

Your 2000 Ford Falcon required SG or SL, SM is later/newer than recommended API version, use Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 SM without worrying.

Thanks guys, might give that Helix Ultra a go, the M1 is a bit on the thick side for me. I will give it a 10k (6,200 mile) interval and get a UOA

Can't go wrong with the Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 API SM.

It has excellent specifications: MB 229.5, VW 503.01, Porsche A40 and BMW LL-01.
