The best cleaning oils get dark real quick.

My SuperTech synthetic made by Citgo got dark within 2500 miles.

I'm gonna run it again.

I certainly did. And there's both correct and incorrect information there. From authoritative folks, the addpac is different, and ends up being complementary to typical engine oil application. Plus there's the vast empirical data that shows it just plain works. I gather you haven't really read much on this issue based on your statement.
 
i used rislone in my truck to clean the nasty goo out of my old 350 used it 4 times that year along with pyb.

i don't know which oil cleans better i learned in high school shop the the cleaning agents in oil suspends the contaminants and keeps them from sticking to the engine.
 
2 or 3 consecutive 100mile OCIs with the cheapest you can find will clean just as good as any other oil, but not as well as filling it to the bri with diesel and letting it sit overnight
