I use Gold Plug. To me it is more of an early warning system, but I also like the fact that it's so hard to drop the drain plug in the pan.

I have a magnetic plug on my Kia. Long story short I needed to replace the original on my second oil change. The first oil change was done by the dealership. The Kia dealer paused filming of the latest Godzilla movie so Godzilla could tighten my oil plug for me. Getting it off was the most unbelievably ridiculous car maintenance experience ever. Anyway, I replaced it with a magnetic one. When I do oil changes there really isn't anything to speak of on it, so I don't think it does anything. Doesn't hurt though.

Oh, you should have seen the drain plug washer!!!

I think the use of a higher quality oil filter will be the best thing you can do for your engine.

Using say a yellow can of death Fram oil filter and then add a magnet into the mix is silly.

I figured if it is put on the oil filter you are inhibiting the filter's job @ 10 microns you cannot even see the particles
