I have a few quarts of Defy 10-40, that says it is SN, and 2 gallons of Defy 10/30 that says it is SL. How can the 10-40 be rated with the latest lowered zinc ratings???

I thought all defy was SL rated.

Try your local Advance Auto Parts. Mine carries it and says they will continue to do so. I echo what has been said, SN rated 10W-40 is allowed more ZDDP than lighter grades. Love Defy, using 10W-40 in my Dakota now.

As already said, 40 and above is allowed to have more ZDDP. They also don;t have to worry about ILSAC since only 30 and below qualifies in the first place.

M1 HM does the same thing, 10w40 is SN while the other grades are SL-only.

Pennzoil HM is SN but not SN-RC/ILSAC GF5. They have a donut but no starburst. This applies to both the regular HM brown bottle as well as the new PPHM.
