I would pull the battery, I want to say there are some problem grounds under it. Hard to believe you of all people would have corrosion issues, but perhaps the battery boiled over at some point and has lunched some wires.
Well it had a battery from O'Reillys years back and it only lasted about 8 months before it was toast, so back to the dealer batteries it was. VW changed their warranty on their dealer batteries from 2 years free replacement, 3 years pro-rated to 3 years free replacement and 2 years pro-rated. Also the warranty resets when you get a new battery. My car kills a battery about every 2 years so I basically have free batteries for life since the warranty resets. I'll see if I can muster up the effort to take the battery out to look underneathfor corrosion. It's not an easy job since its crammed in there on the Beetles.
