"Lubricants Not to Use!

"Household" oil, such as 3 in 1, is a vegetable oil and is acidic. It tends to gum up. (It's really bad news inside internal hub gears, too...)"

So should I pour it into the oil recycling jug, and never look back?

Haha....I always am astonished by the amount of people taken in
by some random person on the interwebz making a false statement and others eating it up without doing any research on their own.

Lmao, couldn't agree with you more.

But in this case Sheldon Brown is an experienced bicycle repair guru, so not a random claim...

Thanks for the quick replies, everyone!

In a lot of cases,so called experts are merely speaking their own opinion and not fact. They don't realize they could get sued or at least a cease and desist order could be placed on them, for spreading a harmful lie.

hes right you shouldn't use it on a bike chain, however everything else was wrong. Unless he has some special brand that esp. sucks.
