Hi everybody,

I need some help, please! I'm getting ready to change the oil in our dad's 2006 Tundra. I going to use Mobil 1. I'm planning on mixing the 0W-40 with EP 0W-20. I have read on here that mixing the two 50/50 will result in a 30 weight. Here is where I need the help, considering the range that a 30 weight covers, where does the 50/50 blend fall? Somewhere in the middle?
I would like to make it on the heavier side of the 30 weight scale. Our dad is an aggressive driver, so, I want to stay on the heavy side, but still remain a 30 weight.

The Tundra says to use 6.5 quarts, but due to the way the dipstick is, I can pour in 7 quarts to get it exactly on the full mark. So, 50/50 would mean 3.5 qts of 0W-40 and 3.5 qts of 0W-20, correct?

To be on the heavy side, what should the ratio be? 4 qts of 0W-40 to 3 qts of 0W-20? Or 4.5 qts of 0W-40 to 2.5 qts of 0W-20?

Your advice and input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

This blend would actually boost Zn & Ph and cut Mo in 1/2. So if this is what you desire, blend away, because you are not going to find an add pack like the blend. However if you use M1 0W30 from the get go, replace a quart with M1 0W30 Racing oil (heavier too), I think you could have your cake and eat it too if you want high ZDDP and Moly.

M1 0w40 VOA

M1 0W20 VOA

M1 0W30 Racing VOA

If Mobil made a EP 0W-30, I would gladly use that and be done with it. The reason I'm looking at mixing the two is because I want the 0W for the fast oil flow on startup.
The only 0W-30 Mobil offers seems to be the Fuel Economy. Looking around their website, it seems to be primarily designed for fuel savings. According to Mobil's chart, it has lower zinc levels compared to their other oils in the Mobil 1 lineup.
I looking for a little bit more robust oil. EP 0W-20 has 60-70% PAO compared to Fuel Economy's 30% PAO.

A 50/50 mix of 0W-20 and 0W-40 will give you a midgrade 30-weight oil with an HTHS of 3.25, which is plenty sufficient for your application. Most synthetic 5W-30 oils are on the lighter side of the viscosity scale.

A heavier 30-weight would be 3 quarts of 0W-20 and 4 quarts of 0W-40, which would be more viscous than you need.

Yeah, 3:4 0W20 with 0W40 will result a heavy 30 weight.

M1 and EP are two of the best Mobil 1 oils, mixing M1 0W20 EP with 0W40 I think is better than M1 0W30, and varying the ratio between the 2 will get the desired viscosity, light or heavy 30-weight.
