Coolant filter

Don't know about the insides yet but this is a Baldwin B5089 coolant filter. It has a very small opening and the threads are 11/16-16. Some have chemical disc in the too.

That's what the center tube of my filter base looks like. I'll have to check my 4070 stash to see if the filter is wide open, or if it looks like that.

That's a restrictor orifice, designed to limit flow through the filter (so that if you install it between the 2 heater hoses, you'll still have heat). The coolant filters I've cut open appear exactly the same as a cellulose oil filter (except for the orifice).

I have mine plumbed in on a small 3/8" radiator bypass hose that goes from the upper radiator hose to the water pump. T-stat is on the lower hose at the water pump.
