Why do you trust a vet with bad breath?

Yeah, really well.

A molar and a canine, and his temperament improved out of sight...now we just have the Siamese spitefulness to deal with, not the cranky child scratcher.

Ha!

My wife was a vet tech and sonically cleans the teeth of our dogs. She starts when they are puppies and they seem to enjoy it. It's funny to watch actually. The dogs are very well behaved.

She couldn't get that thing in the same room as the cat so it's on it's own.

Nice! Btw...if you can feed your cats some chunks of raw (rabbit or chicken hearts) it will keep their teeth and gums looking good. The chunks get sheared by the teeth and this shearing keeps them cleaner.

I've had it done a few times to have their teeth cleaned. The vet at the time suggested a slight change of diet, which has really done wonders for my 4 cats - raw red meat. Every two weeks or so, I give them some de-boned raw meat for them to chew on. I also give them some raw bones (never pork or chicken bones) as well, which helps get rid of calculus build up. Add some brushing on a weekly basis, and they haven't really needed it since.

I've had this done at least twice. One of my cats had 19 teeth extracted. He was about 6-7 years old at the time.

He'd developed a nasty, painful gum issue where they became very inflamed, and would hang down. So he would be eating and then scream in pain and bolt to a corner.
The gums were raw, and he would bite them with his teeth.

Spoke to vets several times. They said they see it fairly often with cats. 99% of them do really well going under and having teeth extracted.

He kept his canines and front teeth. For several years he had been pretty lethargic. After surgery he was like a kitten.

But a second/third opinion is always good. And research the vets/vet clinic. Not all of them are reputable or animal lovers.

We just had one of our Collie's teeth cleaned under anesthetic and she was fine. All of our dogs have it done that way and we have never had a problem. Their ages range from 2 to 11 and they have all been fine with anesthetic. The only thing I would say is how long have you been going to that vet and what has your experience been with him/her up to now? We only go to someone that knows our animals and that we trust.

We had a cat that had to get a tooth removed. She was very healthy with the exception of her constant sinus cold but she had been on quality dry food her whole life.
