Toyota 1988..... 148 K ,22re, new oil every 3K ,dino only...Rear seal leaks now on engine...5 speed manual 4X4...Every 3K it is down 1/4" in on dip stick....Any Ideas...worried about getting oil on clutch....Any miracle stuff out there? Charlie

Auto-RX fixed two rear main seals that I know of in the last 3 months. One was mine and one was a co-workers.

Obviously it only cleans dirty seals and doesn't fix torn seals.

Have you simply tried a High Mileage oil first?

Maxlife (my personal choice as it works great IME) and Pennzoil High Mileage are well regarded on BITOG. Doesn't sound like you're losing very much, the seal conditioners in HM oil might just be enough.

Try a high mileage oil, such as Pennzoil High Mileage or Valvoline MaxLife. I have had great results stopping leaks in 4 different vehicles using these oils. My Firebird had a pretty nasty leak which I believe was coming from the rear main that was stopped entirely on one OCI using Pennzoil HM 10w-30.

1/4 of a quart in 3k is not a problem! I'd do nothing but top it off, Maybe try a high mileage oil. But really we obsess over this but its really not an issue, especially in an 88 model car. I'd say thats pretty good.
