CD4E in a 02 Merc Cougar--No Reverse

Suddenly we have no reverse in our Merc Cougar. Fluid is fine. I'm hoping for a sensor, but I realize it could be time for a rebuild. What should I check?

I'll take a look at the Transmission Range Sensor. I may have the alignment tool for it.

Any flashing CEL light? Transmission is also used in 4 Cyl Mazda 626, it will flash and go into limp mode. In the Mazda it was pending death for the tranny, the cooling for these transmissions was not good.

No codes. I have an extra trans range sensor that I'm going to try.

Trans range sensor didn't fix it. I guess I'll call around about rebuilds.

Make sure the shop installs an external cooler, heat is a big reason the CD4E fails-along with not changing fluid regularly.
