A Mazda part for my Ford

Just thought I'd share some rebranding fun.

My truck has the original engine oil drain plug, and I noticed during the last oil change this past weekend that the integrated seal didn't look so good.

The Dorman aftermarket replacements change it from a 5/8ths head to a 16mm head, and the gasket doesn't look as good. I wanted a plug good for 13 years like the original.

I thought about calling the Ford dealer we use for our body shop, but decided to try the Mazda dealer in our franchise first...sure enough, a plug for a B3000 was in stock...

The date on the label from the Mazda distribution center is only from a couple days ago, and I did not special order this, so it is something on their stock order. I guess a lot of B3000 owners think they need to go to the Mazda dealer for oil changes.

At less than $1.65, this ended up being the best option.

The thermostat/water outlet assembly for my Mazda6 was less expensive at the Mazda dealership than the Ford dealership. It's the exact same part.

It's always nice to have options to get parts for your car from another dealership brand. My brother's Lexus is mechanically the same as a Camry, so when we needed some parts for it in Montana (no Lexus dealers anywhere near) we told them it was a Camry, same thing. He does the same thing at the auto parts stores too.

Sometimes parts for my 1995 Ford Escort are cheaper at a Mazda dealer, and they are more likely to have it in stock too. Usually these things are transmission parts (since the transmission is a Jatco/Mazda one) or things like bushings that were also used on Mazdas.

The Focus ST rear motor mount(Ford calls it a "roll restrictor") is a budget upgrade for the Mazdaspeed 3. Dirt cheap: $60 shipped.

The same situation exists where Ford parts are interchangeable with VW parts, the Ford Galaxy and the VW Sharan are both the same vehicle.

What's the best way to identify shared parts between Fords and Mazdas? Is it to just google it, or is there a place where you can find a list of Ford and Mazda part numbers that are the same?

Google or Wiki the car you're thinking of - if it's been rebadged and sold as something else the Internet will tell you

In the case of the Ranger and B-Series, all of the mechanical parts are the same. Only cosmetic parts are different, so it's kind of like getting parts for a GMC Sierra instead of a Chevy Silverado (though in that case the parts would be in the same packaging). It won't be as cut and dry for other models except maybe the Escape/Tribute.

I was kind of expecting to see Ford or Motorcraft packaging if anything at all. A lot of Mitsubishi Raider parts come in Mopar packaging. To see it in a "Mazda Genuine" bag was kind of funny.

The Ford part number is printed on the left side of the Mazda pick label.

Mazda covered the Ford label with their own.

The Mazda sticker says "MEXICO" but when you remove the part from the box it has a big red maple leaf sticker on it that reads "MADE IN CANADA".

So they apparently shipped it to Mexico to be relabled to be shipped back to the USA where it costs less.

LOL, I like how they went as far as completely covering the Ford label with the cardboard colored tape/sticker that has the Mazda label on it. Nobody will notice!

At work we have an interesting rebranding situation with the oil filters for Sparks. The Spark uses a weird size of Daewoo filter - a "PF68" in the AC Delco catalog. GM boxes them by the long part number in a "GM Genuine" box that doesn't say AC Delco anywhere on it. When they package the filters as AC Delco PF68s, they simply throw the filter still in the GM Genuine box into a larger AC Delco box that says PF68 on it. You open the PF68 box, then inside of that is a GM Genuine box, then inside of that is the filter, made by whatever supplier in Korea makes Daewoo's filters.

I like how Mazda even put the Ford F75Z-6730-BA part number right on their label. It is interesting to cost compare Ford and Mazda parts. BTW the Ford drain plug has around a $10 MSRP.

Wow, full blown list on the Mazda part number was like $1.97.

I hate to bug the Mazda parts manager with no-VIN lookups on a 2002 B3000, but I have to know about the heater hose assy and cam syncro now.

B-Series pickups are abnormally common around here. They were the bread and butter for a big Mazda dealer here for over a decade, so there may be a lot of stuff in stock for them still.

Prices on those are within a couple dollars of Ford.

Our 2006 Ford Focus came from the factory with a Volvo-branded screenwash reservoir cap.

And the SEAT Alhambra.

Thanks for checking on those. I figured it wouldn't be as much variance on those kinds of parts.

The Mazda/Ford thing is very common here, in the '80's and '90's all our Fords were badged Mazdas, even the trucks, although the bigger trucks were badged Hinos.

I did a clutch on a Mazda pickup a few weeks ago - the genuine LUK dual mass flywheel was stamped Mazda, the replacement flywheel was also LUK and stamped Ford. Not just packaging, they were both stamped with LUK and Ford and Mazda.
