Good morning I have a 1996 Chevy half ton with the 4l60 automatic transmission , sometimes slips in reverse only ,all forward gears shifts fine , trans fluid looks good always changed fluid and filter at 20,000 miles currently has 96 thousand miles on it , could it possibly be a solenoid , thinking its electrical , I do snowplow with it and owned it since new , very well maintained , and like I said does it occasionally

Could be gunk in the valvebody but I think with plowing duty it's seen more shifts to reverse than your average transmission.

It won't cost you to check the wiring bulkhead at the valvebody that feeds those solenoids for corrosion etc but it's a long shot.

Can you put a pattern to it, hot or cold?

Yesterday morning it slipped backing out the driveway , drove to farm and fleet about 4 miles away and put it in reverse and worked fine so seems to not slip in a warmed up

Maybe some high quality ATF like Amsoil (and some Auto-Rx). What ATF is in it.

I am sure you know snow plowing beats up the front suspension and transmission.

Is it worth a rebuilt transmission if it comes to that?
