Ah, I see. Didn't know they made synthetic Shell Formula, was only familiar with the white bottle.

How funny is that, because I have never seen a dino Formula Shell!! I learned something new

I get it at BJ's for $22/6 qt case.

I've sort of become this way too. Sometimes I don't go look at the oil aisle in stores, but it is the case that I often find myself over there looking at their motor oil.

Hi Joe.

"my wife is glad i'm addicted to bitog rather than some online porn"

What's the difference - Naked women or an engine with the valve cover removed....

Hi Joe, I'm new to bitog but been lurking for months. I've been adicted to oil for years. I used to talk about it too much to friends annoying them when I was younger. I try to see the oil isle in stores and in my local walmart a couple times a month.
I used to put some syntec on a shelf in the living room to glance at from time to time. That's probably weard I know lol, bur now I keep my oil stash out of sight.
I'm glad I don't have to feel so weard to have this addiction, and pleanty of other bitog members are into oil as well.
"OA" lol.

I was once a lurker. I guess I'm now a full blown BIOTG'er. What started out as researching deals has led me to accumulate a stash of around 250 qts at the moment. All of which is fully synthetic.

Although it goes against the knowledge I have gained here. I'm still changing my syn at 5k increments. I actually like working on cars and find it therapeutic. As long as I can keep getting syn for a buck a quart and filters for close to free with coupons, I'll keep changing my oil to much...

Draining serviceable oil and replacing it for serviceable oil makes no sense no matter what the monetary cost is.
And as stated by the SAE papers Dnewton has generously shared with us when oil is changed the new oil strips the old anti-wear layer off to put its own on and thereby increases wear until this tribo-chemical film has been established.
So early oil changes are more than just irresponsible as far as environmental impact it also increases wear vs longer intervals.
So do what you want but know the facts.

I do the same so I don't hear the wife say "You bought MORE oil???" LOL

Absolutely NOTHING wrong with that. I have had 2 vehicles that I used to 200k+ miles that ran fine using 3-4k OCI along with 3 other +150k mile vehicles.

This claim has been debated many times here...Some agree, some disagree...All I know is what I said above in bold and seen with my own eyes. Two 2.8L Chevy v6's (88 S10 & 84 Firebird) that run the same at over 200k miles as it did when new did not have a problem with a magical layer being stripped off with new oil. My .02 which is probably only really worth .0125 LOL

I keep my huge oil stash at Walmart...Whenever I go there to get some, they charge me a nominal storage fee

Now that's funny right there!!

I change it because I like to do it.

If that means my vehicle lasts a few thousand less miles. I'm ok with getting the joy and satisfaction from doing the work.

I would imagine that using the same oil would greatly reduce or eliminate this effect. If the additives are the same, what is going to remove the anti-wear layer from the previous oil?

Nope. Same oil doesn't affect the tribo chemical layer since the study was done using the same oil.
Do what you want. It's your money.

Keeping the oil to its ragged edge of the serviceable limit is not all that good of an idea either, especially for us up north. As Europeans found out last, record cold temp. breaking, winter the oil loses its fresh pumpability and flow characteristics with age and miles. It caused enough engine problems that this issue will be addressed on the next oil standard.

I wish we were neighbors.

especially now that it is cold.

heck, I'd plow your driveway if you'd change my oil ... i'll even bring you the oil and filter.
