My check engine light came on the other day and when I pulled the code I got this:

P2422 (EVAP system vent shut valve close malfunction)

Car seems to be running fine. I'm not sure when the light came on but it seemed to come on after I filled my tank up...and I mean filled it. I usually wait until the click but this was one of those nozzels that clicked off every 5 seconds. Any relation to an over filled tank? Probably a coincidence.

In any even I'm needing to drive the car this upcoming weekend out to my reserve base..probably will put about 250 miles on this weekend.

Any danger driving with this until I can get it looked at? Between the snow and other stuff I haven't had a chance to get it to my mechanic.

I saw there was a service bulletin for this years ago but at 160K I'm sure I'm out of luck lol

My main concern is ok to drive?

Product Update: EVAP Canister Drain Joint
(Supersedes 03-040, dated July 31, 2003)
BACKGROUND
In wet conditions, moisture can enter the EVAP
canister at its drain joint. This can cause the MIL to
come on with DTC P0497 (EVAP system low purge
flow) or DTC P2422 (EVAP system vent shut valve
close malfunction).
VEHICLES AFFECTED
2003 Accord L4 2-Door:
From VIN 1HGCM7...3A000001
thru 1HGCM7...3A011453
2003 Accord L4 4-Door:
From VIN 1HGCM5...3A000001
thru 1HGCM5...3A048521
From VIN 3HGCM5...3G700001
thru 3HGCM5...3G703004
Not all vehicles within the VIN ranges are affected by
this product update. Before beginning work on a
vehicle, verify its eligibility by checking at least one of
these items:
• The customer has a notification letter.
• The vehicle is shown on your campaign
responsibility report.
• The vehicle is shown as eligible on an i N VIN status
inquiry.
In addition to the bulleted verification items, check for a
punch mark above the third character of the engine
compartment VIN. A punch mark in that location means
this campaign has already been done.
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
All owners of affected vehicles will be sent a notification
of this product update. The customer notification may
also contain information on other product updates. An
example of the customer notification for the EVAP
canister product update is
at the end of this service bulletin.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
If the MIL is off, replace the EVAP canister drain joint,
and install a foam gasket around it.
If the MIL is on, retrieve the DTC(s), then replace the
EVAP canister, the EVAP canister vent shut valve, and
the EVAP canister drain joint, and install a foam gasket
around the drain joint.

The TSB in question is A03-040. Check your VIN to see if you're even covered by this TSB. It may not even apply to your vehicle.

There's no danger and no rush. Get it looked at when you can.

This is not one of those situations where corrosion in the EVAP can damage the ECM. This also has nothing to do with how much gas you put in the tank.

I disagree. Over filling gas cars totally screws the evap system. Good luck... It has a chance of recovering. Stop doing that by the way.

That's possible. Snow or snow-melt may simply be stuck in the drain. When warmer weather comes, the moisture may dry up, and the code disappear.

But that won't set a P2422.
