The only mfgr who has ever said much was Toyota who specifically stated the extra injector(s) were for part throttle cylinder filling issues. Porsche engineers have also stated this is a difficulty in DI engines.
Catch cans don't seem to work, either.
IMO valve overlap may be the secret as it could expose intake valves to fuel, and could easily be manipulated to do so with modern VVT setups...
