Snowblower Specific 5W-30 Oil at Menards

In looking up some info for my B&S 4 cycle lawn mower, B&S states that with a full synthetic oil, operating range is 0-120F. While my snowblower is 2-cycle, my lawn mower used as a leaf shredder and my chipper/shredder often work below 40F when that 30w get a little thick. For the 20oz my lawn needs, it's Supertech starting now.

I got some NAPA $3.79 full synthetic 5W-30 for my lawn tractor.

That and a Fram 3600 equivalent oil filter...

If it was really cold here, I would use Mobil 1 AFE 0W-30...

Probably not too much.

I also don't worry about a label being 'snow blower' oil or whatever. I just get the oil I want, don't need a label to tell me it's for a snowmobile, motorbike, or whatever.

I cannot find any specific info on this oil, but typically the "4T" denotes an oil for smaller displacement 4 stroke engines that require a higher anti-wear add pack, such as higher than normal ZDDP.

But it does say it's SM rated, but does not have the official donut. Take that for what it's worth.

Interesting this "4T"... In Swedish, German, etc, it just means Fyrtakt or "four stroke".
But suddenly, it seems to only mean four stroke oil aimed at motorcycles, outboards, scooters, snowmobiles, garden equipment etc.

Whatever, there is are no specific needs for "snowblower oil" except for maybe low mulitgrades.
I run full synthetic automobile Total 0w30. Just great!

Special snowblower oil especially at a grade of 5w-30? You might as well go and get a regular bottle of 5w-30 but at that price it isn't to bad. I wouldn't run it but that is just me. Maybe go for GC which might be the best oil for snowblowers. I like GC good oil.

went into my local Menards today, partly to see the expanded filter selection someone mentioned (this store has only added Bosch) and stumbled upon this oil myself took a couple pics:

now it doesn't specifically say it's SM rated, only "best reccomended use of this oil is for four-cycle engines, with a recommendation of API SM performance requirement"

any reason NOT to use this in a car? esp at $1.79/qt?

...needed for an automobile engine. While small air cooled engines can be brutal on oil their OCI's are much more frequent hour wise. If oil cost means that much shop around for an API certified oil. There are many ways to get a good bargain on them, close outs and even Walmart's SuperTech 5W-30 is real reasonable and has to be better for a automobile engine then this oil.

I can think of one very good reason: because it's not API rated.

Their statement is self-serving nonsense. I could just as easily say: "Best recommended use of TGMO is for locomotives where locomotive oil is recommended."
