Hi,

This is my first UOA for my 2014 Mazda 3 GT from the first oil change.

USE: Daily driver, pretty much all short city trips except for about 1500km of highway for a few road trips. I have a really short (~7km drive to work) and when it's cold I do let the engine warm up for a minute while I'm brushing snow or whatever. Sample was taken by the dealer (about 15 minutes drive away) and stored at home for about 2 weeks until the kit from blackstone arrived in the mail.

COMMENTS:
You were right about the moly. A reading of 572 ppm is a lot of molybdenum additive compared to most oils. It's a harmless antiwear additive, but we don't really see a benefit from having more or less in use. The high metals and silicon in this sample are just residual from wear-in, and everything should start to resemble universal averages (based on about 10,700 km) after a few more oil changes. The TBN was 3.8. Running 11,000 kilometers would be fine next time. The viscosity at 40º C was 28.87 cSt.

LAB: Blackstone

Code:

Values Should Be

SUS Viscosity @ 210°F 47.8 46-57

cSt Viscosity @ 100°C 6.60 6.0-9.7

Flashpoint in °F 355 >385

Fuel %
Antifreeze % 0.0 0.0

Water % 0.0
Insolubles 0.2
TBN 3.8 >1.0

I'm new to this whole oil analysis but it looks like the Flashpoint is a bit low and possibly the cSt Viscosity @ 100°C.

The VOA seems to be kindly provided in http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/2781625/1

Any comments, thoughts, advice would be appreciated. Oh and let me know if I forget any required info? Thanks.

Wow look at the Moly. I guess maybe running a FF 7000 miles isnt a bad thing. I drive almost 400mi a day so after in town no cruise/racing for 500 miles for break-in I could make it 7-8k no worries?

cSt Viscosity @ 40°C 28.87
cSt Viscosity @ 100°C 6.60

Wow, that's excellent resistance to thicken as it cools. Aren't most 0w-20's in the 40-50 cSt at 40°C? That's a viscosity index around 195, pretty sweet.

Looks good - fuel dilution is to be expected with a new car breaking in, especially with short trips in cold weather. That will get better as the car breaks in fully. These days, with synthetic oil from the get go, IMO it takes 50,000 miles for a car to be fully broken in. Thanks for posting.

Nice report. This factory fill looks pretty much identical to the Idemitsu-made Mazda/Moly oil (P/N 0000-G5-0W20-MQ). Nice high Moly, high VI oil. Thanks for posting!

Thanks guys. I used Mazda 0w20 with moly (MGMO) which seems not available in Canada. I only picked up a case while I was in the states so I'll probably have to look for another oil to use after I run out. I may need some recommendations when the time comes.

Flash & viscosity took a big hit, most likely due to fuel. If these engines are known fuel diluters I would run a thicker oil. Be interesting to see what these engines are like with 100k.

That being said, wear metals are low for a FF UOA.

Unfortunately, from what I gather through many threads here like http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/2781625/10 and on other forums the 0W20 available at canadian dealers is actually repackaged Petro-Canada Supreme Synthetic 0W20 and not the amazing MGMO "Formulated for use in Mazda automobiles especially those with SKYACTIV technology" that is available in the states.

The Mazda 0W20 in Canada is part number 0000-23-0W20-LT available for 6.30 and the bottle even looks identical to the Petro Canada one. Sadly I hear part number 0000-G5-0W20-MQ doesn't exist in the Canadian parts system.

When I saw the pics @ the stealership it look similar, either way CA tire usually has sales on M1 AFE & Castrol Edge 0w20
