i checked all my notes and couldn't find it documented, but i'm fairly certain i was adding make up oil until i got to the 10w30. of note of your '98, the predecessor to my vans was a '98. i could post those uoas for you. it suffered an engine failure @ 154k due to a head gasket. i miss that van.

yeah, that first oil change was a 60 weight oil being taken out of there.
Guess thats still within the realm of the "usable" since BMW M engines use 60. Wow thats double the KV100 of a 30 weight.

I'm betting that the transmission goes on mine before the head gasket. I drain and fill the transmission every 15,000 miles or so. I've done of couple of UOA's, but nothing notable.

Amsoil, for years, was known to thicken up significantly on long intervals. Didn't impact wear, but the oil thickened.

I would not to long intervals on an engine known for HG issues. Just too much risk!

Im doing 15 000 miles oci's on both my Sonatas.
I did take many pictures with valve cover off.

So from now on will do only one oil change per year.
I'm very happy with Amsoil Signeture motor oil.

I remember that part about Amsoil thickening out of grade from the neptune spacebears study.
but it must have bad effects on MPG.

on the other hand, I found a recent 25,000 mile Amsoil UOA from prius where 0W30 thinned out of grade to 9 cst. What gives?
