I would be curious to see the results with sub oil and an RP filter lol..

Wish I had my own to test hp..id test out all possible combinations lol..

I'm doing a lot of this today.

Who's going to sue BP for their Charger commercial. BP the company that ruined synthetic oil for us.

I have RP oil and RP oil filter on the truck.

Redline is a better oil, but higher HTHS, so I put the Purple in there. Silky smooth

Royal Purple gets beat on because it seems to be a somewhat goofy (Purple?,) gimmicky, and ezpenexpensive oil. BUT... if you DO LIKE I DID and GIVE IT A SHOT.. You tend to say "You know what? This oil is amazing."

As far as freeing up internal resistance and lessening friction, it probably does with the oil under its purple guise, in some kind of way better than about any oil.. except Redline.. which is why I mix them. They just don't tell us a whole lot about it.

Give it a try. It is awesome.

This is crazy but when I read your post it seemed like you were speaking my mind word for word.

Couple more things on Redline oil and why I don't use it. First, I also believe it to be better than Royal Purple(HA, so much for fanboy) but two reasons I dont use it. One it really makes my engine feel sluggish and two, my fuel economy always takes a hit. Presumably due to high HTHS but happens even if I go a grade down.

Dude, I've run everything from 0w-20 to 5w-40 in that same engine and it doesn't care. Do you know why? Because it is pushing around a transmission that is the size of a Civic with a transfer case the size of a Yugo attached to it, which in turn is attached to two driveshafts, which then attach to a 9.75 and 8.8" set of ring gears, all to motive a vehicle that weighs north of 6,000lbs. And it does it with 260HP. There is so much drivetrain going on that pretending that the minuscule difference between viscosities has any significant affect here is ridiculous.

Sure, I MIGHT be able to see some guy with a manual Corolla notice some more "pep" with a lighter oil (which actually translates to next to nothing on a dyno, but anyway), but you are so far removed from that sort of direct connection with the Expedition, and insulated by so much girth and driveline that saying there is a difference is being dishonest. I even measured fuel economy and could observe absolutely no change.

Tech Tests HPS in Subie

I thought I heard that RP was under new ownership and so possibly they were unaware of the BP vs RP battle. In that battle, every single one of RP's claims (better mpg, better HP, better protection, etc) was entirely discredited.

I don't see it. Even Joe Gibbs racing had some dynos showing RP improving HP over other oils that weren't made by Joe Gibbs racing.

And I'm sure you have a method, beyond subjective impressions of course, with which to quantify this?

Any formulator can make an oil that yields hp gains, but what are you giving up to do so? Oils have to do many things. If you increase the friction modifiers and lower the Cf, how does that impact the rest of the performance of the oil? The gains noted in the link are impressive, but RP has always made some ridiculous claims and to this day still uses the Falex test as a anti-wear performance measure. LOL

There is one better ... if you take stock in fluff advertising.
