Put a new Waterpump in my 5.3

Well I was looking under my suburban the other week and found orange water dripping off the bottom of the water pump. Once I had some time to take a closer look I found it to be dripping out of the bottom of the factory (2 halfs) waterpump and once shut off, It would seep out of the weep hole. So Went to AZ today and got a new waterpump and thermostat and did the entire jobe in about 1.5hrs and 140 bucks!

Chevy wanted $280 for the pump and I didnt even ask for labor cost!

How long did Your water pumps last in your 4.8 5.3 or 6.00 engines? Mine has 130)000 miles

Replaced the one in my dads 2002 Suburban at about 125,000. Pump was fine I think. The gaskets were the culprit. I think I paid $110 at Advance, only did it myself because the dealer wanted like $500.
 
Some water pumps you can buy at AZ aren't as good as the OEM pump. That can easily explain why their pump costs less than the OEM unit.

Do you know who made your replacement pump?
 
80,000 miles on my 5.3 pump. Once I got it off, it was clear that the gaskets were leaking but I'm not sure about the pump itself. I had ordered a new AC Delco from Rockauto, so I changed it all.

possibly? but with the three 5.3L's I maintain, it was the water pump seals between the pump and the block that failed.(metal with orings that distort and leak) If you notice in the second picture it looks like the duralast pump uses paper gaskets. I.M.O. this alone is a upgrade, and worth consideration, of not repeating the same mistakes! mike
 
Typical Chevy parts changes. Water pumps, alternators and starters. GM can't make an alternator to save their lives.

279,000kms on the original alternator on my Silverado and I just replaced it last week. Still on the original waterpump. Starter is original as well.

During the 1990s and earlier, most GM alternators were garbage. However, many of the ones from the 2000s and up had a decent lifespan. Same goes for starters. Water pumps weren't a large problem from what I saw.

We have had 6.0 engines run half a million miles and never had to change a water pump or alternator.

In our later model fleet trucks it is not uncommon to go well beyond 200k miles with no major issues at all. I mean no water pump, no alternator, no power steering failures either...

And the trucks were wore out too. You probably just put gas/diesel in them is all...... Someone call Guinness.
