2015 Dodge Grand Caravan?

We have been very happy with our Caravan. We have had it for about 4 years now and it has been very reliable, decent on fuel, and seems to be up to just about any task I have put it up to. I like the newer ones and as far as I know the gas mileage on the 3.6 is even better than the old 3.3/3.8 engines. I think you would be very pleased with one.

If this is going to be a long term vehicle, you may want to consider getting some bell & whistles. Options like power sliding doors/lift gate come in handy if/when more kids or dogs come along.
Also, the Caravan is being discontinued in 2016, but I'm not sure how that will impact resale value.

We've got about ~27K miles on our 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan SE. It's our third minivan in a row (2001 Windstar, then 2008 Odyssey). Power, ride, handling and visibility is the best I've had yet. Interior quality is OK. No issues thus far aside from a leaking P-steering pump early on that was replaced/fixed.

Chrysler did some great things to the GC in ~2012. WAAAY improved brakes and better suspension are the main things.

It's an unbelievable amount of useful vehicle for $17K, but would be considered too basic for much of today's buyers. No window tint, no rear HVAC, has a 2nd row bench seat, etc.. It's another grand or two to go up an option. My SE model was ~$19K because of the factory tint, rear HVAC and aluminum wheels. The only thing I dislike about mine is the fixed driver's seat height. It's too high for my liking.

What more can I say? I'm on my 7th. Caravan/Grand Caravan. All bought used. All but the last 2 had over 100k on them when bought. All but the last have over 200k on them now. 2 were passed on to my sons. My new GC is a 2013 GC. Bought with 21k in 6/6/13. has over 40k now. The new power train is so much better then then the earlier ones. Nothing special in the way of maintenance, tires, brakes and such. If you do your own maintenance, easy to work on. They are really tough. My wife in our 2000 gc was T-boned in 2008 by a Honda civic doing ~50mph. The civic was flat all the way back to the windshield. We drove the GC home and later had it rebuilt. We drove it until 2013. My middle son and dil are now driving it.

$17k is a steal. I paid $21.6K used for mine.

Good luck,

Wayne

Also, consider a Dodge Journey. Entry level models of the Journey can be bought in the $17,000 range new as well.

Local Chicago dealer has new 2015 Journey's for $16,990, new 2015 Grand Caravans for $17,190.

If you really want to go cheap and new, they have a 2015 Jeep Patriot Sport for $13,690 (brand new).

Wow. That's a screaming deal. Sticker looks to be $17,190 with destination. And that's without air conditioning. One with A/C looks to sticker at $20,080.

At that point, you might as well get the Altitude, which comes with A/C and stickers at $19,085.

That's what I was thinking. I haven't seen a new offering w/out AC in years.

I bet you'd be hard pressed to find a Jeep Patriot without it.

yes, you are right No AC on the base model but the list is huge! It even has a pollen filter! The only way you know it has no AC is to guess from reading this.

Jason, it's hard to say, because generally, those $13690 prices include every incentive available like first time buyer, recent college grad, lease conquest, etc.. Very few buyers will qualify for all of them.

No; if you go to Jeep's website and build a Patriot Sport, and click on the "Interior" section of the options, you'll notice an Air Conditioning Bypass feature. Down in the "Options" section, something like a Power Package adds air conditioning (and a few grand to the price).

Interestingly, the Altitude model, which seems to sticker for less than a Sport with the Power Package, has air conditioning.

They make the money old fashioned way! By squeezing you on the necessities

MP3_Radio $600
BT $500
A/C $1200

That is $2300 for something which every base Civic comes standard with :-(

Saving grace is that you could probably get aftermarket audio system completely installed for much less than the $1100 that factory is asking but as far as AC is concerned, you have no choice.

Wife and I bought a '14 grand caravan last April we got the SE 30th anniversary edition. I love that thing (even from a guy that hated minivans). So great for road trips. Drives super, motor / trans do great. Very comfortable and roomie.

Agree on all points, especially the engine/trans, power, handling and braking. Just curious what the 30th anniversary edition includes? Ours is a 2013 SE model.

Thank you everyone for your input. We are going to do some shopping over the next few weeks, although we may wait until the spring so we can enjoy a clean new vehicle for a while before next years snow/salt season.

This. Has the Pentastar engine. Kicks Beehind, despite its appearance. You won't want to let your kid drive it its so powerful assuming it lasts that long. Chrysler will be discontinuing them after next year, I think. They still have the lion's share of the minivan market--they evidently don't want to give away Pentastar equipped vehicles to keep it.

If you are conerned about durability, and you really do keep your cars that long, look into the extended mopar warranty. There was a thread on it a couple of weeks back. (The price is highly negotiable).
