well I gave my 2010 sonata to my son and bought a 2015 sonata.it also calls for 5/20 oil since I cannot change my own oil I think I will have my changes done at monro muffler.they rotate your tires every other oil change and the people around here seem to like them.

But, but....you're a BITOG member. You HAVE to change your own oil!

I'd say the next best thing is to make sure the proper lubes go in it and at the right intervals.

ROFL. I agree! Why visit this site, if you're not going to do this yourself?

+1

Congrats on the new car. Nothing wrong with taking your car to get serviced. Just because you arent turning the wrench and getting dirty doesnt mean you arent still a good BITOG member.

Since its a 2015 its still under warranty right? Just make sure you document everything that isnt dealer related.

Are you going to trust their house oil and filter? or are you going to take your own?

ernied, you owe no one any explanation as to why you don't want to / cannot change your oil

I understand completely ernied. I can't do many things I used to do after a shingles attack crippled me for life. I can still change my oil but it takes me about four hours. I strongly urge all members to get the shingles vaccine. You don't want to be left with PHN like I have. I can be having a nice day and then have an attack which is so painful it can cause me to pass out for a few seconds. Saw another pain specialist this week and he said there is nothing he can do for me after fifteen years except prescribe hydrocodone which I have taken on and off for years. He said I could try "neurostimulation" which is electrical current applied to the neural pathway. He wasn't too encouraging though. There is surgery involved implanting the electrodes and "generator."(battery).Get the shingles vaccine members.

Does your son live near you? As long as he's local, I think giving him your old car warrants having him change the oil on your new car a couple times a year.

I would have the oil changes done @ the dealer. They keep the records and any snafus need to be handled by them.

I'd have a tough time going to a muffler place unless I knew who would be working on the car. Those techs come and go. JMO

Congrats on the new vehicle.

I'm in a similar boat. Though I have no physical issues with changing my own oil, I live in an apartment complex. The "management" says "no working on cars on the property," and while the office is closed on the weekends, it's still a worry. I'd have to buy ramps and store them, another difficulty. Plus it would take two parking slots along the curb to position the ramps and drive up onto them and back down. Not easy when a single spot is sometimes hard to find.

I miss changing; but there it is. So, unless I get a car where I can extract the oil and change the filter from on top -- or get a house with a driveway! -- I buy good oil and filters and have my regular mechanic do it.

As long as they have a solid reputation and you are comfortable with them servicing your vehicle then there is nothing wrong with having them do the work if you're physically unable or simply prefer not to crawl under vehicles. Just make certain that they are trustworthy, and check a few sources such as the BBB.
