Anyone seen Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 LL-01 A3/B4?

No MB 229.5 approval? Meh... weak sauce.

I'd stick with Edge 0w-40.

According to Castrol Consumer Relations, the only Magnatec 5w-30 we'll be getting is the Dexos1 version, not the heavy ACEA A3 stuff.

According to the oil selector for Castrol Magnatec, 10w60 is recommended for my 1997 Toyota 4Runner, SR5, V6.

The 5w30 can be used as an option???? So much for Cafe suggestions.

Castrol 10W-60 in your 4Runner would ruin some tree-hugging bureaucrat's good night's sleep.

That stuff might be a good substitute for the Castrol TWS the dealer loves ($$$) so much.

I used long time ago Magnatec in Europe.
It is step below Edge. It is typical HC on cheaper side with weaker ad package.

So you're saying that the 10W-60 would be a good replacement for the Ten W Sixty? Who'da thunk?!

Bear in mind that the Oil Selector linked from the Castrol Magnatec micro-site is for the UK and will offer suggestions not available to you in the US. The US oil selector makes only one suggestion, Castrol EDGE 5W-30.

I understand the short hand regarding TWS, but the point I was making is a commercially available (non-dealer) Castrol 10W-60 would be well received in the US.

Nothing would thrill me more than 5 quarts of TWS or 10W-60 Magnatec and a Wix filter for $32.99 at O'Reilly.

I currently keep my TWS supply locked in my liquor cabinet next to a bottle of Pappy VanWinkle.

Thanks Pete. I knew you would have the answer.

That AZ Edge 0W-40 is going to hold me for a while anyway.

I don't live over there and am not familiar with your stores, but I found this showing that Castrol EDGE 10W-60 is available to buy (at least online) outside of dealers. Maybe not the pack size and price, but I'm guessing you have other outlets you can check.

There is no Magnatec 10W-60.

I'm thinking that's why both the 0W-30 and 0W-40 Edge were discounted so deeply.

Try BMW dealerships. I think their BMW labeled oil is this stuff. They're in the process of transitioning to Shell.

BMW are transistioning their genuine oil from Castrol made to shell made. It's still labelled as BMW GO

The oil company branded stuff won't necessarily change. despite the head office view some dealers may continue with oil company offers.
