Most of us know Mobil1 0W40 and WM. It's nice Valvoline now offers a 0W40 Euro oil in the U.S., too.

My question would be: How they plan to compete with M1 and Gc (0W40) when you can get 5qt for $21-27?
Until they put 5qt jug in WM it is lost cause.
It is not Redline or Motul to pay that much. It is Valvoline.

They have an MSDS for it. It has the following:

Quote:

HYDROGENATED POLYDECENE CAS:68037-01-4 Concentration: >=50-
Lubricating Oils (Petroleum) CAS:72623-87-1 Concentration: >=30- C20-50, Hydrotreated
Neutral Oil-Based

Visc is 13.5 @ 100C, 77 @ 40C which gives us a VI of 180.

EU PDS says pour point is -51c.
However, although it is ASTM D92, flash point of 203c is really not something to brag about.

Yeah, I noticed the flash seems low. Interesting the difference between "melting point" and "pour point" is almost 10C eh?

Like I said, not worth of $9 a quart. It is questionable whether it is worth of looking at it next to m1 and Gc for the same price.
Most importantly, do not know NOACK and HTHS.

1. Not everyone shops at WM (although it may find its way onto those shelves anyway).
2. Lots of Valvoline fans out there.
3. If it has the OEM approvals, it will sell just fine.

Good for them.
I have no doubts that this is good oil and that there is a fan base.

There is no synthetic oil any brand any grade at auto parts store with regular price of less than $8/qt in quart bottle.

Sometimes local Walmart in So Cal prices Valvoline synthetic for more than M1 in both quart bottle and 5-qt jug. Valvoline synthetic is good but not better than M1 to demand higher price.

I've run the 5w-40, and would run the 0w-40 if given the option on the AAP 5qts+FU sale that rolls around, would be tempting. Of course the stash is pretty full right now...

Good on Valvoline for keeping up to the competition.

In fact in Europe we also have Valvoline SynPower 0W-40 for more or less the same price however it has a shy specs:

API SJ/CF
ACEA A3-98, B3-98, B4-98
BMW LL-98
MB-229.3*
VW 501.01 (5/2000)
VW 502.00/505.00

I don't understand who would buy API SJ oil for the price they are offering ...

Can you expand on the phrase 'euro oils'? Valvoline isn't a European company, and 0w40 is worldwide, so what makes valvoline 0w40 european? Being on sale here?

Oils that meet Euro mfg specifications, such as MB, BMW, and VW.
