It's a very popular oil - cheap and does an excellent job keeping your motor clean. Not surprised it wasn't on the shelf. I checked wal-mart 2 days ago and they were out of 10w-30, 5w-30 and 10w-40.

And here are some others to use as a comparison:

Oh yeah - the PQIA results are responsible for the shortage! Haha - that's a good one. As much as I love the people at PQIA and what they do, I'll bet 99.999% of the general public couldn't even tell you what PQIA stood for if you spotted them the P and the Q.

My local Wal-Mart recently made changes to their oil inventory and some items were difficult to find. It may be an issue with your store resetting current inventory through their supply chain.

Some oils also have a seasonal demand such as 5W30 sold out in cold weather.

You could try Amazon for the Mag1 15w40. It's another Warren product, their top of the line oil, and if you have Prime Membership, shipping is free to your door. I've seen it in the gallon jugs and 5 gallon pails at a real good price on Amazon.

I didn't say that the PQIA is singly responsible for the shortage. I mentioned it in addition to being regional, as SF0059 had mentioned. There are probably lots of reasons for the shortage, all being unimportant!

And in addition again, the fact that the folks who are using 15W40 oils are much informed from this forum as well as other forums. And, they're doing more research. The knowledge is spreading!

There are lots of reasons for the Super Tech 15W40 not being on the shelves in certain areas. People have learned that it's good oil! And, Walmart is probably not stocking a ton of the 15W40 in certain regions. They only stock what will sell.

It isn't 99.9% of the folks buying 15W40, it's folks with diesel motors and folks with older engines and OPE that like this oil. Those who frequent forums like BITOG! And, W*M stocks just enough!

Geez....

Can't find Warren HDEO??

Practically every auto store in the US has it sitting on the shelf with their private label on it.

Actually, Tractor Supply has been my best deals for HDEO. $5/g for Shell T5 and other sub $10 per gallon deals. I just wished they had Traveller in a 10w30 flavor

As for the ST shortages, could it be local farm supply retailers have their brand of oil on sale for under $2 a quart?

When Rural King had their oil for $1.59(?) a quart, the ST quarts were extremely picked over.

They also currently have Castrol GTX 15W-40 HDEO for $11.00/gallon.

I have never tried their Mystik (Houston, TX) HDEO but have heard good things about it.
