Mom (MIL) got me a pair speakers for Christmas to replace my blown stock ones in the Maximustang. They are Dual DWS654 4 way 6.5" from Walmart for $29.98. They are intended to replace the stock speakers, not win any competitions.
I don't like to cut the cars wiring harness, so I removed the sockets from the stock speakers and soldered pigtails to them to plug onto the Duals.
The speaker fit was a little tight with the mounting tabs being too far apart, so I had to bend the frame ears a tad and use the smaller diameter, longer screws.

Stock blown speaker (surround, not coil).

Sound is really good, better than the stockers have been for the last five years anyway. For stock replacement I think they are good. HU is a Dual from Walmart, 15WX4 and speakers are 40W RMS.

The sell pigtails that plug right into the factory harness for a couple dollars. Anyways nice job on the wire job. I also do not believe in cutting the cars harness if at all possible.

IIRC you can get "Dual" speakers and even a head unit from advance auto... and use coupons.

Just an odd thing to remember if you're trying to pad an order up to a $50 or $100 threshold.

I put one (yup, one) of their speakers in wife's HHR, was a hassle due to the "teardrop" cutout in the door. So I used self tapping screws, "tin", and silicone so it wouldn't rattle. Sounds pretty good!

Yes, they made turntables in the beginning that were both electric and hand wound, hence the name dual.
