Protecting anodized aluminum

That anodize is the aluminum protection. It's not just to make the metal pretty. Alodine and anodize are both methods of creating a barrier coating on the aluminum surface to prevent corrosion.
 
Acids and alkali will eat the anodize and then the aluminum itself. So will sea water.

If it's not going to be exposed to anything like that the anodized layer will protect the aluminum. If you really want to do something to protect it you can use pretty much anything you'd use to keep steel from rusting, paint, wax, oil...
