My pc guy said i should get secure line vpn from avast for my other computers i use for banking and other important things .Anyone have and knowledge on this topic. I know my wife uses it at her office but is it any good? It is used to make the person using it invisible to the bad guy but how good is it really?

Your wife probably uses it to access her office, which is the traditional use of VPN's. Ultimately your traffic will traverse the Internet at some point. As long as the important bits are encrypted with SSL you are fine. You are not gaining anything by using a VPN other than overhead.

A VPN won't really give you anything beyond an SSL connection. As long as the protocol is https and not http, you are just as protected.

A VPN might give you anonymity (disguise your IP address), but not additional encryption.

Exactly. It might allow you to browse porn at work but that's about it, LOL!

True. Though depending on the throttling relative to VPN throughput, you may be no further ahead, LOL
