For late model BMW's I believe the factory recommended oci in Europe is about 19k mi (30k kilometers) every 2 yrs. The attitude toward oil change intervals appears to be quite different than here in the States as evidenced by this thread in which the owners boast about their long oci's ("How Big Is Yours") - http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=894011

BMW's "longlife" service interval is actually variable; the car's ECU tells you when to service based on various factors such as engine load, cold starts etc. The MAXIMUM it can go to is 30k km or 2 years.

PS - my 2007 BMW 130i went to 18,000 miles before the first service.

OP's Mercedes-Benz M112 3.2L V6 is a swell little engine.
One of the better hand-me-down offspring of that ill-fated Daimler-Chrysler marriage.

I'd change it every year and then not worry a thing about it. That's great oil and you're barely stressing it with 3k miles. Our Mercedes runs M1 0w40 and my understanding is that the service reminder could have it in there as much as 19k miles for up to two years. It got pretty close to two years before the light came on and I'd say I had about 5 or 6k miles on it. I'm just going to run it and change it when it tells me to do so, and I'm not going to even worry or think about it.
