One of the most influential people in NHRA Fuel car racing, has passed. He made tremendous contributions to the advancement of Fuel cars, throughout his career. I had the opportunity to talk with him in the staging lanes at the US Nationals a few years back, when he was working as a consultant for Brandon Bernstein on their Copart TF/D. It's a memory I'll cherish.

RIP, "Double-A Dale".

Yes he was! RIP Dale Armstrong.

Dale Armstrong never achieved the fame of Big Daddy, but he was just as much an innovator. Always looking for new ways to go faster and maintain an edge over the competition. Along with Garlits, Pete Robinson, Grumpy Jenkins, Dale was part of a seemingly vanishing breed of seat of the pants engineering.

a class act for sure!! his innovations kept team cars ahead of others. special modified mags putting out extreme amps + the big fuel pressure kept his cars up front until others discovered what he had done

The "extreme amps" were provided by Mallory back in
the day when they had a trailer at the national events.

Mags could be re-charged and returned to the teams.

Same for the Erson Cams that fuel engines loved to
wear out in no time.

Because of the burn rate and pressure curve of nitro-methane
the exhaust valves were difficult to open.

Despite an increase in cam core diameter in the 48 degree Hemi
and large lifter wheels, the opening ramp on the exhaust lobe
took a beating.
Dave Bernstein ran the first 300 MPH run.
His car did not display a cam or ignition decal.
