I'm very conservative with filter changes. If there is some good reason not to change it, I don't. It is my view that new filters are a good avenue to introduce dirt/debris into main bearings-many filters aren't packaged well, and who knows how good the mfg quality really is.
In nearly all cases there is very little wear material in a used filter on a healthy stabilized engine.
OTOH you don't want the filters to disintegrate due to running them far longer than specified.
