Well, I guess I found the mileage limit of German Castrol 0w-30 in this engine. Interestingly enough, it's right around 10k miles, and that's the recommended change by Audi/VW.

The turbo was replaced due to a stuck open wastegate, during this OCI (oil changed at the same time as turbo replacement), so SOME of the iron could have been from that, still fuel dilution got too high. Direct injection has that effect.

So, why is 12,000 miles too much for this oil? Iron wasn't out of this world and it had lots of TBN and stayed in its viscosity grade nicely.

Yeah, it burns about a quart every 2500 miles, steady since it was new. These 2.0T engines are known for having a terrible PCV system (air intake always full of oil) and not-so-great ring seal. Lots of engines got re-ringed by VW/Audi, but only if they burned a quart in less than 1k miles.

I say i found its limit, because the trend of iron spiked 3x in only 20% more miles from the previous 2 UOAs.
