Hi guys. My buddy has a 2000 1.8T golf. Mis fired- bad coil. During the R&R process, discovered that the spark plug hole is filled with "OIL and Coolant" mixed, like chocolate milk. How can this hole filled up with this kind of stuff? No coolant lost; no white smoke etc. Coolant is clean as well as expansion tank. Thanks .. Any idea?

The oil is from a failed spark plug well seal. This is a strip that seals all four plug wells so replacement will require replacing the entire valve cover gasket set.

The water mix is a mystery. It's possible that moisture has accumulated in the wells and is creating the milky mixture. It isn't necessarily coolant but rather plain water from accumulated condensation. It may also be from washing off the engine or possibly from running in the rain if the lower belly pan is missing.

Let us know what it looks like once you get things apart.

I agree it's likely just condensation or splashed water that made its way into the spark plug tubes.

If the oil was contaminated with coolant or water, you'd be able to tell by pulling the dipstick.
