Light Bulb Cartel

Very interesting read.. thus the logic with the automotive silverstar bulbs etc.. I had some philips that barely lasted a year.. get them where it hurts.. find alternatives.. 9012 instead of 9006 etc.. Most consumers fall for the marketing.. but some of us are still smart enough to find better alternatives. Its funny how their lightbulbs were made to last 1000 hours yet the appliances from just back in the 70's-80's lasted very long.. you figured they would of caught on early enough to realize they should find way to make them cheaper like the lightbulbs were...

That author and authors should have done some reading on the physics of tungsten filaments, specifically, the lifetime of said filaments verses operating temperature at 3,500 degrees Kelvin.

People demanded more light output. The companies gave it to them, albeit there is a limit to light output verses lifetime.

That was before life cycle engineering and value engineering were invented!!!!!

There are plenty of references to confirm the fact that bulb cartel was real and the bulbs were specifically engineered to NOT last 2000 hours regardless of the physics of the tungsten filaments.
