Greetings Everyone:
Last week I purchased a 2005 Ford Explorer XLT 2WD with the 4.6L V8. It had 218,300 on the clock when I got her and was a local Atlanta one owner vehicle. It is super clean, tight and there are no runs, drips or leaks. The previous owner must have used a local Firestone tire and lube center with 3,000 mile OCIs as indicated on the windshield sticker. The filter was a white can with "Firestone" on it. Not sure of the brand. I am guessing on the Kendall oil but from what Blackstone wrote, that must have been the oil.
The dealer I purchased it from had just got it and didn't have time to change the oil.....so I was happy. Bought it on Saturday, changed the oil and filter on Sunday and below are the results.
I have read many good things about the 4.6L engine and from the report, this motor looks to be in good condition. I am hoping to get another 200,000 out of her.
What do you guys think?
FWIW, I put in Maxlife 5W-20 and a Fram Ultra filter. Planning on a one year or 5,000 mile OCI whichever comes first.
