Have CQ50-110US restore discs laying around?

I don't have the disks but there is a "Restore to Factory" partition on your computer. Well, there is if your original HDD is still working. From that partition you can either restore that drive to the way it was when it left the factory or you can create restore disks or both.

Looks like it's about 6 years old? Probably too late to get the disks from HP but if all else fails you might give that a shot here; Obtaining HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive

I have an old Acer laptop that's a year or so older than your HP and Linux Mint 17 is working beautifully on it! :)

I'd run that too, but too dumb to know how to install it.
