Doesn't save your browsing history, etc.

No, I think that is where it always was on windows computers anyway. It's on the left right before the first tab on my Linux computers.

Shows how much I use Firefox then I guess eh?

Good to know though, I immediately assumed he had some sort of funky add-on.

I remember some system-wide add-on recently that showed up as an extra icon in the title bar that gave you access to "smileys". Removing it from the infected PC ended up being a royal pain IIRC.

That's why when I saw it I was like "oh no!" LOL!

Just be cognizant that companies can simply look at network traffic to see what you're doing, or install a hidden proxy and log what you're doing.

My favorite use for private browsing modes is when I need to log in to two accounts at once, it's prefect for that. Or to check that a website does offer a new deal or price to 'new' customers.

I have to use it when testing some application updates. There are times where I need to bypass local browser cache (control F5 doesn't always work to clear local cache and drop existing sessions) but don't want to completely wipe the browser cache and sessions.

I work in the IT department so I'm aware of the monitoring.

In fairness, I've only seen that icon shown in a prominent location on certain versions of Firefox. Mine on the Linux box at home has it, and certain versions of Firefox in Windows have it, but the one currently installed at the office does not.
