1.Dump all the fuel. This way there's no way of ANY fuel related issues. No need to waste money on fuel stabilizers either.

2.Spray the cylinders with fogging oil and reinstall the spark plug.

3.Dump any coolant from the engine if it has any. Probably needs a flush anyway.

4.Spray all the rubber and such with silicon spray to protect it. Silicon is anti-water or moisture.

5.Cover the unit with a BREATHABLE cover to keep the dust and the UV rays off the unit.

Use the thing for the last time in the fall and put it in the garage.
Running it out of fuel is usually a bonus, since it's usually easier to start an engine that's been run dry.
If not and if you have difficulty strating the thing, a little carb cleaner or either will fire it right up and it'll run fine after that.
Got more than four hundred hours out of my last Tecumseh powered mower with this treatment and could have gotten more had I felt like fooling with a beast I'd paid seventy dollars for brand new on clearance seventeen years before.
These little flatheads are tough!
