for anyone familiar with vegas strip, whenever you pay for anything via credit card the receipt comes out with a gratuity line on it along with total. mirage buffet they charge you in advance before you sit down which caught me off guard. at the mirage circ theatre i get popcorn and 2 drinks at the counter before going in, $45, and didn't put any tip on that. am i a cheapo [censored]? the look i got from the guy behind counter gave me that kinda vibe.

No, but it depends on if you still leave money on the table after you eat.

If you are completely tapped out in cash, then yes you can pre-tip.

As far as tip amount, buffet tipping etiquette does not have to be as much as at a full-service restaurant. You can use whatever, but at least a few dollars/person, I personally go by # of plates cleared/#of drinks/items brought to you, others do too.

not talking about general tipping like at some kinda eating place, like evryone is familiar with. i am talking about, say u go to gas station quicky mart and buy a couple things at counter with credit card and theresa gratuity line on credit card receipt. im being extreme now, that didnt specifically happen. whathappened was movie theatre counter i bought two 20 or 30 oz pina colada and one small popcorn for $45, didnt put anything for tip on credit card receipt... at the counter. this is after ~$250 for two tickets to get in for the circ beatles show

if there isn't any service given, then there isn't a need for tip.

Of course, it's vegas being vegas, where nobody has any shame to put a hand out to take your money. And if you want to play the role of a "big man" go ahead.
But there isn't any social convention that requires you to just give extra money at a gas station or quicky mart or anything and you shouldn't feel bad about it. That's their issue not yours.

I thought you didnt want to be called Mr Pink?!!!

Tipping seems to have gotten out of hand..if i tip its for service..if i prepay..max 10% at a buffet..kinda crazy tho..since nobody is serving but wtv..

thats what i figured. i was surprised how often there was a gratuity line on every credit card receipt.

I tip based on the quality of service received. A tip is a bonus, it is not on me to pay someones employees a decent wage because they are too cheap.
Give me lousy service my tip is bring an umbrella its going to rain. Great service get a great tip.
Pre pay a tip? Not in this lifetime.

I'm not sure if a stand that serves popcorn and soda is fast food or not, but that's odd to expect a tip on that. I wouldn't think to tip at a movie theater snack stand, which is what I'm picturing.

Vegas is all about flattering the visitor into thinking they're some sort of baller. Hence the staff everywhere all wear suits or tuxedos. They subsidize the buffets to keep you in the casino longer; it's expected that you'll be cheap. If the buffet servers can't get by on their paychecks, there are plenty of folks willing to move in from LA to take their place.

I hate tipping, my tip to you would be to get a better job if you seriously rely on people's generosity.

Tough times man!
