Discussion on why the different tests have different cooling rates. Rapid cooling to the same temperature allows less gelling than a long, slow cool...

To prove the possibility, they made a bench top lube with a basestock pour point of +25F for their testing.

Interesting comments around mid paper on VII and PPDs, their behaviour and interaction...in short, statements that appear "self evident" fall down when VIIs and PPDs interact.
 
Very cool. Keep spreading the word, especially since some have incorrectly said that it is not true that some additives interact negatively.
 
Keep in mind this series of tests was done with mineral base oils with API SF/CC PI package formulations.

The authors are correct in that the formulator has to choose the correct test or set of tests to determine formulated characteristics.
