I need to find a filter for a 1962 Cummins NT280B in my old Peterbilt.

The truck parts place sold me a Wix 51954 and it's wrong as is the gasket they also sold me.

Mine is a canister style filter with a huge built in bypass valve on one end and a removable spring on the other end.

I cant read the #'s on the old filter.

Anybody?

I found the correct filter. The filter is a Wix# 51900. It and the 51954 are canister filters but vastly different.

A guy on a Historic truck site knew the corect #. I guess Originally my truck used a "bag" filter which is basically a burlap bag wrapped around a mesh screen. The 51900 is the replacement for the bag.

Interesting; Under the "Principal Application" section of my Wix filter catalog, the 51900 principal application is listed only as "Cummins Bag Conversion".

Another intersting point - The Wix website lists the 51900 as a transmission filter. Why?

I suppose it's a dual-purpose filter.
