Guys I forgot to mention, the bottom right corner where there is that black stuff is also where the PCV valve is situated. Does that have any correlation?

And, the exhaust valve spring keepers are dirtier than the intake. Why is this?
If you notice the exhaust rocker arms are Y shaped, could this be causing less oil flow over the exhaust valves and hence more crud accumulation there?

Hi Spetz, was that carbon dry or gummy and tarlike?
 
Running a quality ACEA accredited synthetic goes a long way in Mitsubishi engines. I've got 400,000 km (250,000 mi) on mine and it's been almost 8 years since I last did my valve seals. That was ~216,000 km (135,000 mi) ago.

I would suggest an inline catch can for your application. Helps keep the intake clean.
 
The black stuff is dry. It comes off really easy actually, eg a scrub with a toothbrush would clean it up easy
