389 seems a bit low for the phosphorus.

That P must be an error given the high Zn and that this EP is a compound, unless something other than classic ZddP - which I couldn't imagine - is in this formulation. ATM has been a great longlife oil std by which others are measured.

What will be the application?

fwiw, the result on my 10k mile sample (also ATM) came back 378, and zinc 1466.

i use it in my 3.8 windstar and 4.0 sohc exploder.

I would call them a tell them to try again.

The VOA on the ATM that I had done on 13/11/09 has the following.
Zn 807
P 643
B 263
Mo 46
Mg 13
Ca 3201
Your viscosities are high as well.
Mine shows 59 cSt @ 40 C and 10.4 cSt @ 100 C.

I would agree that something's not right with your results?

Multiple UOA's show the Zn consistently being consumed at a disproportionately higher rate to the P the longer the oil is in service. Just saying for future reference.

yeah, it's free so perhaps it's not as accurate as it should be. i've ordered some wix kits off amazon, will be sending some from the same batch and report back here.

so i ran the differences by percentage, and i'm considering the WIX lab's # more likely to be correct (since it's $18 and the other was free).

phosphorus 47%
zinc -88%
TBN 20%
v40c -15%
v100c -19%
 
Still way off on viscosity and TBN. Stick with Blackstone or Polaris/Oil Analyzers.(same thing). TBN should be 12+. Vis. @ 100C should be 10 to 11.

isn't OAI owned by amsoil?
 
just spoke to amsoil tech svcs, no amsoil doesn't own OAI.

as to why I have lower TBN numbers... http://www.pqiamerica.com/TBN.htm

he said the D4739 test (hydrochloric acid) will generally report new oil 2pts lower than actual.

It depends upon the testing method.

Anyway it doesn't matter, as long as the results of subsequent UOA's relating to the oil from the machinery being assessed, don't show anything abnormal when testing is always performed at the same lab.
That's the whole point of the whole process.

2 things.
i suppose that is why OAI is not offering this oil analysis value kit, meant for what you mentioned.
secondly, "trust, but verify." I want to independently know that what i'm spending $xx for can prove it's ability. that why i sent a 3rd sample to OAI and will post it's results once received. i'm not one to constantly drink the koolaid without pausing from time to time to make sure it's still just that.
