Towing boat with Dodge Caravan

I have decided that I will just get a hitch for the van and go ahead and use it. Pretty much any lake I would take it to is within 20 miles of here and not hilly. I think as long as I keep my speed reasonable and keep it out of overdrive I will be fine. I don't think the boat is probably all that heavy. I can get a hitch and wiring and accessories for about $200 and I already trust the reliability of the van. Plus, this is just occasional towing and the lake I usually go to doesn't have steep ramps. I never had issues with a 2wd 3.0 Ford Ranger with a similar boat on the same ramps. Thanks for all the advice guys!

Update: Installed the hitch and wiring harness and picked up the boat last week. Tows much nicer than I expected! Now my next project is getting the boat all cleaned up and running so I can do some fishing.

I had a 95 awd and towed regulary a 3000 Pound horse trailer
for many yaers, never had a problem. The only thing i did was
to lock out 4´th when it wasent absoletly flat. It towed well and was a rock on the road.

You won't have ramp troubles-you're FWD, drive wheels won't be anywhere near the moss or water. I pulled my old 15 foot fiberglass runabout with an '83 Escort, 1.6 liter 5 speed, no problems. Your power-to-weight ratio is a LOT better!

A friend of mine used to tow his 14' Lund and 15hp outboard with a 1992 Accord. And this was from Minneapolis to Northern MN. Towed it just fine.

used to tow a 2500lb pop-up with an 01 LWB T&C. it was a far better tow vehicle than the 97 pathfinder it replaced. never had any trans issues, kept it out of OD. no to package. had the 3.3.

I have a Polaris Ranger 700XP. My neighbor has a 16 foot john boat w/trailer, ive pulled, launched and pulled out of the water with no trouble. How does this relate to a dodge Caravan ? well it doesnt.. im just sharing a interesting story.

For the record, yes i had to "give her a good goose" when pulling the boat and trailer out of the water.. However my UTV performed well.

I took the boat out for the first time on Thursday. The van towed it great. The trailer has a fairly long tongue on it and the boat sits a ways back on the trailer. Launching the boat was actually even easier than it was when I used to have a similar boat I towed with a Ford Ranger.
