For all you BMW owners with the feature that raises and lowers the steering wheel when the key is turned on, the steering column on my wife's 2004 530i has been sounding like a Canada goose when the steering column goes up and down. Had sprayed lubricant around steering wheel to no avail. Had to take off the panel under the steering column and take a 13mm socket and loosen nut that holds the screw mechanism. It somehow gets too tight. I backed the nut off a couple of turns and solved the binding problem, which produces the annoying groan.
