New car anything special to do

Check the dip stick. If the car has been serviced at the dealer the oil could be overfilled. Check the coolant level. If it's low fill it up to the mark with distilled or bottled water. You should only have to do this one time. Check it each time you check the dip stick.

That early first oil change around 1k is a great time to scope out the underside of the car.
Is the oil drain plug protected enough for a Fumoto valve?
Easiest Oil filter access? Extra caution necessary to avoid a mess?
Any grease zerks? Can you find the ones mentioned in maintenance required?
Access to other fluid drain/fill ports.
And so on...

you won't be starting a bunch of threads about the ongoing problems with your Saturn. darn!
re: early o/c's -- doesn't matter.i'm in the change it early camp -- about 500 - 700 mi. whatever makes you happy.you've been here long enough to have seen about 20 of these threads. bottom line is always the same -- whatever makes you happy.
re: break in. read the manual. your car is broken in after about 300 mi.opinions will vary here, as well.
I hope that you're not going to be one of these wizards that starts the goofy threads like -- my car calls for 5w-20. is it o.k. to use 5/10w-30 ?use what the oem calls for.
good luck with the new wheels, and have a good night.

The coolant level for msot cars is supposed to be measured when hot. So if you're measuring when cold, and you fill to max, you have now overfilled it.
At cold, as long as it's above the min line and likely near the middle, you are OK.

As others have said, your best bet is to look in your owners manual and see if there is any specific break in procedure. Some vehicles are very straightforward with how to operate the vehicle for the first XXXX amount of miles. Others may not. I would just follow those directions and enjoy!

I thought the OP had a strong dislike for Fords?

Do you know what power steering fluid it comes with? If the OEM fluid is cheaply made, I quickly swap it out with premium fluid. Premium synthetic ATF to replace conventional ATF, Royal Purple to replace stuff that isn't red. Other types of synthetic PSF may be better because they would match OEM color, but whatever, I just want high quality fluid in there.

Automatic transmission or manual transmission? Many guys like to replace the manual transmission fluid at 10,000 miles because that is when most wear metals are created.

The power steering is electric so no fluid. And I may drain the trans early one time to.
I don't think the car has an oil life monitor either .

I would recommend the exact opposite of the above recommendation.

3000 miles or 6 months; whichever comes first.
