I have a 2004 Kia rio Cinco 1.6 and had the same problem. Check the 2 connectors that plug into the ignition coil as the plastic tends to get brittle from age thus shorting out. If that is the problem Order the connectors from the dealer as You will have to cut & solder the plugs from the harness You get.
