Valvoline Nextgen synthetic

Dallas and HK - I understand they re-refine the oil. If they are re-refining ONLY used oil, I would be all over it. It would be better than refining crude. But nobody enforces what goes into the receptacles. Multiple viscosities are in used oil, how do they make it 5W-30, 5W-20, etc. How do all the other fluids, chemicals, and other unthinkable substances get removed? How can they be 100% sure they have removed everything? And you are correct, Ashland is a blender. So who is re-refining their used oil? I guess I am skeptical...

A good full synthetic will be in the 170 range.

The specs look like a regular dino oil with a slightly lower NOACK. The high CCS vis of 5832 also fits in with dino oil specs.

PQIA tested their conventional NextGen, not the synthetic variety.

I posted a UOA of Nextgen Maxlife from my BMW in August 2012.
You can find it if you wish.
You won't find a cleaner UOA from any BMW using any oil.
IOW, there's nothing inferior in the Nextgen line, other than its sales.
Your interpretation of Ashland's financial results is in error.
Income from operations is the figure of merit, not net, since net accounting income is a product of many tax breaks taken as well as non-recurring non-cash charge offs of accruals and understates actual results.
You need to dig a little deeper than what you found on Wiki for any corporation if you want the real picture.

Did you even click the PQIA link I posted? Clearly says on the bottle: NextGen Synthetic
PQIA tested both NG dino & synth.

A while ago, I used this oil in mom's 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The store was having a sale. As soon as I read some reports of other Maxlife oils not meeting specs, I immediately drained out the oil and replaced it with something else.

Maxlife has proven itself to be an excellent oil time and time again by bitog users... To each their own. Or did you mean Nxtgen not passing specs?

You're right, my mistake. "Synthetic" was not explicitly mentioned in the PQIA's text description anywhere though.

I'm not surprised either way. How much, if any, does inconsistency in "basestocks" have to do with it? Things that wouldn't show up on a VOA/UOA that somehow make it past the re-refining process (which I admittedly am not familiar with)

What maxlife oil not meeting spec? The DEXRON III viscosity?

No, the engine oil NOACK test according to the PQIA.

You mean Nextgen 5w20, not MaxLife.

Right, I was using Maxlife Nextgen 5w20. I made an error when making that post.
