Old hang on window a/c maintenance......

If you use it a lot I'd consider replacing it with a new unit. 35 year old A/C is going to suck electricity.

8.7EER isn't bad at all, especially for one that old! My 8000BTU Energy-Star is only rated 9.2EER.

And honestly, I suspect that one will (greatly) outlast mine!

Agreed. That level of efficiency isn't bad.
Keep that unit. As has been said, it probably is better quality and will last longer than anything you will buy new.

Even if it didn't have efficiency ratings on it, I'd still keep it and run it if works well. It's a window shaker. They all draw some juice and I love the fact the 35yr/old one is not all that inefficient after all.

We go through a lot of window shakers for some of the offices and small control rooms at work. Newer ones are junk for the most part.
